Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Genetically modified Neisseria lactamica 4xrNlac (4xrNlac) is an experimental live bacterial challenge agent and recombinant vaccine candidate developed by the University of Southampton in collaboration with the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). It consists of a mixture of four genetically modified strains of the commensal bacterium *Neisseria lactamica*, each engineered to express two key surface antigens from the pathogenic bacterium *Neisseria meningitidis*: Factor H Binding Protein (FHbp) and Neisseria Adhesin A (NadA). Administered intranasally, 4xrNlac is designed to colonize the nasopharynx asymptomatically, mimicking natural carriage to elicit mucosal and systemic immune responses, including serum bactericidal antibodies, to prevent meningococcal infection and disease.
