Overview

GeneVac-B is a recombinant DNA hepatitis B vaccine indicated for active immunization against hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in individuals at risk of exposure to HBV-positive material. The vaccine contains purified hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) produced in Hansenula polymorpha yeast and adsorbed on aluminum hydroxide as an adjuvant. It does not contain any material of human or animal origin. Upon administration, the HBsAg stimulates the immune system to produce antibodies (anti-HBs), providing protection against future HBV infection. Immunization with GeneVac-B reduces the incidence of acute and chronic hepatitis B, as well as complications such as cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma[1][7][5]. The vaccine is available in pediatric (10 mcg/0.5 ml) and adult (20 mcg/1 ml) formulations for intramuscular injection.
