Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Genexol-PM + carboplatin is a combination chemotherapy regimen primarily investigated as a first-line treatment for advanced ovarian cancer. Genexol-PM is a Cremophor EL-free, biodegradable polymeric micelle formulation of paclitaxel developed by Samyang Corporation. By utilizing a polymeric micelle delivery system, it avoids the hypersensitivity reactions and toxicities associated with conventional paclitaxel formulations that use Cremophor EL as a solvent. Carboplatin is a platinum-based antineoplastic agent that interferes with DNA repair mechanisms. Together, the combination works synergistically: paclitaxel stabilizes microtubules to inhibit mitosis, while carboplatin induces DNA cross-linking to prevent replication and transcription, leading to apoptosis in tumor cells. Clinical trials led by Asan Medical Center have evaluated this combination's efficacy and safety, demonstrating non-inferiority to standard paclitaxel regimens in epithelial ovarian cancer.
