Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Genipin 1-beta-D-gentiobioside is a natural iridoid glycoside primarily isolated from the fruit of Gardenia jasminoides (and also found in Genipa americana). It is a small-molecule research compound with reported hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antithrombotic activities. Recent preclinical research has demonstrated its potential in treating metabolic-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) by directly binding to and inhibiting the enzymatic activity of hepatic protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A). This inhibition leads to increased phosphorylation of acetyl-CoA carboxylase 1 (ACC1), thereby suppressing de novo lipogenesis and reducing hepatic lipid accumulation, inflammation, and early-stage fibrosis. It is not an approved drug and is currently sold for research use only.
