Overview
Gennoshouko extract is a botanical preparation derived from *Geranium thunbergii*, a perennial plant widely used in traditional Japanese medicine (Kampo) for its antidiarrheal and anti-inflammatory properties. The extract is rich in tannins, particularly geraniin, which are believed to provide cytoprotective, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects on the gastrointestinal mucosa. In clinical research, Gennoshouko extract is being investigated in combination with berberine to improve gastric intestinal metaplasia and reduce the risk of gastric cancer, specifically in patients who are *Helicobacter pylori*-negative or have successfully undergone eradication therapy. The combination aims to reverse precancerous changes in the stomach lining by leveraging the synergistic effects of berberine's metabolic and anti-inflammatory properties with the mucosal protective effects of the Gennoshouko extract.
