Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GenSci161 is a long-acting recombinant protein analog of Growth Differentiation Factor 15 (GDF15) being developed by Changchun GeneScience Pharmaceutical (GenSci). It functions as an agonist for the GDNF family receptor alpha-like (GFRAL), a receptor highly localized in the area postrema and nucleus of the solitary tract of the hindbrain. Activation of the GDF15-GFRAL pathway is a key biological mechanism for regulating energy homeostasis, primarily by inducing satiety and reducing food intake. GenSci161 is designed to leverage this pathway for the treatment of obesity and potentially other metabolic disorders. The drug is currently undergoing Phase 1 clinical evaluation to assess its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetic profile following subcutaneous administration.
