Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GentaGel (also known as GentaGel-LR) is an injectable, biodegradable polymer-based drug delivery system designed for the local, sustained release of the aminoglycoside antibiotic gentamicin. Developed by the Israeli biotech company GentaGel-LR, the product is formulated as a gel that remains at the site of administration, gradually releasing high-dose gentamicin for up to 60 days. This localized delivery achieves high therapeutic concentrations of the antibiotic at the infection site while minimizing systemic exposure and associated toxicities (such as nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity). GentaGel is primarily being developed for the treatment of severe, clinically infected diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) and associated bone infections (osteomyelitis) to prevent lower limb amputations. It is also being explored for other localized infections, including orthopedic, chronic wound, and surgical site infections.
