Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gentamicin + dexamethasone is a combination medication consisting of gentamicin (an aminoglycoside antibiotic) and dexamethasone (a corticosteroid). Gentamicin works by preventing bacterial protein synthesis, effectively stopping bacterial growth. It is active against a wide variety of gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus species, Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae, and Neisseria species. Dexamethasone is a potent synthetic corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, and immunosuppressive properties. This combination is primarily used to treat inflammatory eye conditions associated with bacterial infections or at risk of bacterial infection.
