Overview

A combination antibiotic regimen consisting of gentamicin (an aminoglycoside) and imipenem (a carbapenem). This combination provides broad-spectrum coverage against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Gentamicin works by binding to bacterial ribosomes and inhibiting protein synthesis, while imipenem inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins. The combination has been studied for potential synergistic effects, particularly against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
