Overview

This is a combination antibiotic therapy consisting of gentamicin (an aminoglycoside), meropenem (a carbapenem), and vancomycin (a glycopeptide). The combination has shown enhanced killing action against various bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus. Studies have demonstrated that the addition of gentamicin to meropenem enhances bactericidal activity against P. aeruginosa, while the addition of vancomycin to meropenem improves activity against staphylococci, including methicillin-resistant strains. This combination has been used in cases of severe infections, including sepsis, endocarditis, and complicated urinary tract infections, particularly when dealing with resistant organisms.
