Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**gentamicin + prednisolone** is a fixed combination eye medication containing gentamicin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic, and prednisolone, a corticosteroid. Gentamicin works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, leading to the death of susceptible bacteria. Prednisolone exerts anti-inflammatory actions by suppressing local immune responses and reducing the release of proinflammatory mediators. This combination is primarily used for treating or preventing eye inflammation in situations where bacterial infection is present or a risk, such as uveitis, eye injuries, or post-surgical cases. It is only available as a branded ophthalmic formulation (eye drops or ointment). The product is not indicated for general systemic use and is specifically designed for ophthalmic application[1][3][4][5][7].
