Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GenTeal Gel is a long-acting ophthalmic lubricant formulation containing 0.3% hypromellose (HPMC) and 0.22% carbomer. It is indicated for the relief of moderate to severe dry eye disease (DED). The formulation features a disappearing preservative, sodium perborate (marketed as GenAqua), which decomposes into water and oxygen upon contact with the tear film and ocular tissue, making it suitable for patients with preservative sensitivities. It works by increasing tear film stability, increasing tear meniscus height, and providing prolonged lubrication to the ocular surface to alleviate symptoms such as foreign body sensation, itching, burning, and dryness.
