Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GenTeal HA is an over-the-counter ophthalmic lubricant used for the temporary relief of burning, irritation, and discomfort associated with dry eye syndrome or exposure to wind and sun. The primary active ingredient is **sodium hyaluronate** (the salt form of hyaluronic acid), a naturally occurring polysaccharide with high viscoelastic and water-retention properties. When applied topically to the eye, it forms a stable, long-lasting moisture film on the corneal surface, mimicking the protective action of the natural mucin layer of the tear film. This helps to stabilize the tear film, reduce friction during blinking, and promote the healing of the ocular surface epithelium. It is often developed as a preservative-free or disappearing-preservative formulation to minimize irritation for patients with sensitive eyes.
