GEO-MM01 is a preclinical vaccine candidate developed by GeoVax Labs for the prevention of Marburg virus disease. It utilizes a Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA) viral vector platform to express Marburg virus antigens, aiming to induce both humoral and cellular immune responses. In nonhuman primate studies, immunization with GEO-MM01 resulted in 80% survival following exposure to a lethal dose of Marburg virus, with protection against viremia, weight loss, and mortality. The vaccine elicited neutralizing antibodies as well as functional T cell responses. Earlier studies in guinea pigs showed 100% protection against death from the Angola strain of Marburg virus[2][3][6]. The candidate is currently in the exploratory/preclinical stage.
