GEO-MVA-MUC1 is a therapeutic cancer vaccine candidate developed by GeoVax Labs. It utilizes a Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA) viral vector platform to express abnormal, aberrantly glycosylated forms of the tumor-associated antigen Mucin 1 in the form of virus-like particles (VLPs). The vaccine is designed to stimulate an immune response against Mucin 1-expressing tumor cells, which are found in a wide range of solid tumors including breast, colon, ovarian, prostate, pancreatic, and lung cancers. Preclinical studies have shown that GEO-MVA-MUC1 can reduce tumor growth and break immune tolerance to human Mucin 1. IND-enabling studies are underway with plans for Phase 1 clinical trials[3][6][8].
