Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GeoColon is a proprietary colon-targeted drug delivery technology developed by SkyePharma, formerly in collaboration with Chiron Corporation. It is designed for the site-specific release of therapeutic agents in the large intestine following oral administration. The system typically utilizes the Geomatrix multi-layer tablet platform, which incorporates pH-dependent or time-controlled release mechanisms to bypass the upper gastrointestinal tract. This approach is intended to improve the treatment of local colonic diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease, or to enhance the systemic absorption of drugs that are poorly absorbed in the stomach or small intestine. As of late 2024, the asset is listed in SkyePharma's innovation pipeline at the preclinical stage.
