Overview

GEP44 is a novel, chimeric single peptide designed as a monomeric agonist for both the glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor (GLP-1R) and the neuropeptide Y2 receptor (Y2-R). Developed to address the critical unmet need for therapeutics in obesity and type 2 diabetes, GEP44 aims to provide improved weight loss and better tolerability, specifically by reducing nausea and emesis, compared to existing treatments like exendin-4. Its development involved in vitro receptor screens, insulin secretion assays, stability tests, and in vivo studies in rat and shrew models, demonstrating superior body weight reduction without triggering nausea-associated behavior or emesis.
