Gepferon

Gepferon is a combination pharmaceutical product developed and marketed by OTCPharm (formerly part of Pharmstandard) for the local treatment of proctological disorders, such as internal and external hemorrhoids and anal fissures. The formulation combines three active components: recombinant human interferon alfa-2b, heparin sodium, and benzocaine. Interferon alfa-2b provides immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and antiviral effects by activating specific cell receptors. Heparin sodium acts as a local anticoagulant that binds to antithrombin III to inhibit thrombus formation, reduce edema, and promote tissue regeneration. Benzocaine serves as a local anesthetic that provides rapid symptomatic relief from pain and itching by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels. It is typically administered as a rectal suppository or topical ointment.
