Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Geranium wilfordii + androgen deprivation therapy is a combination neoadjuvant treatment regimen being investigated for patients with locally advanced or oligometastatic prostate cancer. The therapy involves the administration of a traditional Chinese medicinal decoction derived from the herb *Geranium wilfordii* in conjunction with standard continuous androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). ADT works by reducing the levels of circulating androgens or blocking their action on the androgen receptor, which is the primary driver of prostate cancer growth. The addition of *Geranium wilfordii* is hypothesized to enhance the anti-tumor effect, potentially improving the pathological complete response (pCR) and reducing minimal residual disease (MRD) in patients scheduled for radical prostatectomy. This specific research program is led by Baotai Liang.
