Overview
Geridome (marketed as GERIDOME Tablets - KUNIHIRO) is a multi-ingredient, over-the-counter (OTC) anti-diarrheal medication developed and manufactured by Kokando Pharmaceutical in Japan. It is formulated as a vanilla-flavored chewable tablet and is indicated for the symptomatic relief of diarrhea, including cases caused by poor digestion, food or water poisoning, and diarrhea accompanied by abdominal pain. The drug utilizes a triple-action mechanism: Scopolia extract acts as an antispasmodic by suppressing abnormal intestinal motility via the autonomic nervous system; tannic acid serves as an astringent that binds to the intestinal mucosa to reduce inflammation and fluid secretion; and berberine provides antimicrobial activity to inhibit the growth of diarrheal pathogens. It is classified as a Class 2 OTC drug in Japan.
