Gerpferon

Gerpferon (Герпферон) is an approved topical combination drug developed by the Russian pharmaceutical company Firn M for the treatment of herpetic infections. The formulation contains three active components: recombinant interferon alfa-2b, the antiviral agent acyclovir, and the local anesthetic lidocaine. Recombinant interferon alfa-2b acts by binding to the interferon alpha/beta receptor (IFNAR) on cell surfaces, triggering an antiviral and immunomodulatory response that helps the body combat the herpes virus. Acyclovir is a guanosine analogue that selectively inhibits viral DNA polymerase, thereby preventing the replication of herpes simplex virus (HSV) and varicella-zoster virus (VZV). Lidocaine provides symptomatic relief by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels, which reduces the pain and itching associated with herpetic lesions. Gerpferon is approved in Russia for the management of herpetic infections of the skin and mucous membranes, including herpes simplex types 1 and 2, genital herpes, and herpes zoster.
