Gersizangitide (AXT107) is a novel therapeutic peptide and angiogenesis inhibitor developed by AsclepiX Therapeutics for the treatment of ophthalmic conditions such as neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (nAMD), diabetic macular oedema, and retinal vein occlusion. It acts through a dual mechanism of action by inhibiting pro-angiogenic vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2) and activating the vessel-stabilizing TIE-2 receptor. Gersizangitide also inhibits vascular endothelial growth factor A and C, reduces vascular permeability, suppresses vascular inflammation, and is designed to provide sustained biological activity with a single intraocular injection as a microparticulate suspension[1][5][9]. The peptide sequence is LRRFSTAPFAFIDINDVINF-NH2[4].
