gestonorone

Gestonorone, also known as gestronol, is a synthetic progestin belonging to the 19-norprogesterone and 17α-hydroxyprogesterone chemical classes. It functions as a small molecule agonist of the progesterone receptor. While the parent compound gestonorone itself was never marketed for clinical use, its esterified prodrug, gestonorone caproate (gestronol hexanoate), was developed by Schering AG and marketed under brand names such as Depostat and Primostat. Gestonorone caproate has been utilized primarily for the treatment of endometrial cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), typically administered via intramuscular injection. Although it was historically available in several regions including Europe, Japan, and Mexico, its clinical availability has become increasingly limited over time.
