Gexia Zhuyu Decoction

Gexia Zhuyu Decoction (膈下逐瘀汤) is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula first described by Wang Qingren in the 19th-century text *Yi Lin Gai Cuo* (Correcting the Errors in the Forest of Medicine). The formula is traditionally indicated for "blood stasis" in the region below the diaphragm, often manifesting as abdominal masses, localized pain, or liver and spleen enlargement. In modern clinical research, it is being evaluated as an adjunctive therapy for acute pancreatitis, particularly for patients presenting with a TCM pattern of blood stasis and heat/toxin intermingling. The decoction is a complex herbal mixture typically containing *Semen Persicae* (Tao Ren), *Flos Carthami* (Hong Hua), *Radix Angelicae Sinensis* (Dang Gui), *Rhizoma Chuanxiong*, *Radix Paeoniae Rubra* (Chi Shao), *Cortex Moutan* (Dan Pi), *Rhizoma Corydalis* (Yan Hu Suo), *Faeces Trogopterori* (Wu Ling Zhi), *Radix Linderae* (Wu Yao), *Rhizoma Cyperi* (Xiang Fu), *Fructus Aurantii* (Zhi Ke), and *Radix Glycyrrhizae* (Gan Cao). Its therapeutic mechanism is thought to involve the improvement of pancreatic microcirculation, reduction of systemic inflammatory cytokines, and modulation of the gut-pancreas axis.
