Overview

GFP mRNA is a messenger RNA sequence encoding the Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP), a bioluminescent protein originally derived from the jellyfish *Aequorea victoria*. In biotechnology and pharmaceutical research, it serves as a standard reporter molecule to evaluate the efficiency, kinetics, and safety of various nucleic acid delivery platforms, such as lipid nanoparticles (LNPs), nanogels, and viral vectors. Upon successful intracellular delivery and translation, the resulting GFP protein emits green fluorescence under blue or ultraviolet light, allowing researchers to quantify transfection rates and visualize tissue-specific expression patterns in vitro and in vivo. It is frequently used as a surrogate or control payload in the development of mRNA vaccines and gene therapies.
