Overview

GGHS is a sulfated derivative of galactomannan, which is obtained from guar gum hydrolysis (GGH). It shares structural similarities with DAVANAT, a galectin-1 ligand with anticolorectal cancer activity, and possesses anticoagulant properties similar to heparin. In preclinical studies, GGHS has demonstrated antimelanoma effects by inhibiting melanoma cell invasion, increasing cell adhesion, and reducing colony size and proliferation. It binds to galectin-1 and galectin-3 and acts as an immunostimulatory agent by stimulating macrophage proinflammatory responses, including reactive oxygen species production and cytokine secretion. GGHS is being investigated for its potential as an immunostimulatory agent and as a melanoma adjuvant therapy.
