Overview

GHB04L1 is a live attenuated intranasal influenza A (H5N1) vaccine candidate based on a replication-deficient ΔNS1 mutant virus. The deletion of the non-structural protein 1 (NS1) gene renders the virus unable to replicate efficiently in normal hosts but allows for efficient replication in interferon-deficient cells used for production. Immunization with this ΔNS1 mutant induces an immune response without causing productive infection in humans. Preclinical studies demonstrated protection against wild-type H5N1 challenge in animal models. Clinical trials have evaluated its safety and immunogenicity as a prophylactic measure against pandemic influenza[2][5][1].
