GHMT-DP is a transcription factor protein therapeutic being developed by Qurgen for the treatment of heart failure. The drug utilizes a combination of four transcription factors—GATA4, HAND2, MEF2C, and TBX5 (collectively known as GHMT)—to induce in vivo cardiac reprogramming. This process aims to convert endogenous cardiac fibroblasts into functional cardiomyocytes, thereby regenerating damaged heart tissue and improving cardiac function. Unlike traditional gene therapies that deliver genetic material via viral vectors, GHMT-DP is delivered as a protein drug using a proprietary delivery system, potentially offering a more controlled and transient approach to cellular reprogramming. It is currently in Phase 2 clinical development.
