Ghrelin is a 28-amino acid peptide hormone, primarily produced in the stomach, that serves as the endogenous ligand for the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHSR-1a). In research conducted by the University of Aarhus (Aarhus University Hospital), it is being investigated for its metabolic effects in patients with hypopituitarism and growth hormone deficiency (GHD).
