Giant salamander skin mucus bio-glue is a natural bioadhesive derived from the skin secretions of the Chinese giant salamander (Andrias davidianus). The product, often referred to as SSAD (skin secretion of Andrias davidianus), is processed by collecting the sticky white mucus from the animal’s skin, freeze-drying it into a powder, and reconstituting it with water or saline to form a gel-like glue. This adhesive demonstrates superior tissue adhesion compared to most existing medical glues and promotes rapid wound closure and healing. In preclinical studies on pigs and rats, SSAD closed wounds in under 30 seconds, reduced inflammation and scarring, improved elasticity of healed tissue, promoted new blood vessel formation (angiogenesis), and degraded completely within weeks after application. Unlike many synthetic adhesives that can cause cell toxicity or poor elasticity at wound sites, this natural product offers strong biocompatibility with minimal side effects. Historically used in traditional Chinese medicine for burns for over 1600 years[1][2][3][4].
