The gingival stem-cell secretome is a cell-free biologic composed of the complete array of bioactive molecules secreted by human gingival mesenchymal stem cells (hGMSCs). This secretome includes soluble factors such as cytokines, growth factors, and chemokines, as well as membrane-bound extracellular vesicles (EVs) like exosomes. Developed by researchers at Penn Dental Medicine, the therapeutic candidate leverages the innate regenerative and immunomodulatory properties of gingival cells. Its primary mechanism involves the delivery of interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1RA) via EVs to inhibit pro-inflammatory interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) signaling. It is currently in preclinical development for applications in oral wound healing, periodontitis, and facial nerve regeneration.
