Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ginkgo biloba leaf extract injection is a botanical drug product derived from the leaves of the *Ginkgo biloba* tree, standardized to contain specific concentrations of flavonoids (such as quercetin and kaempferol) and terpene lactones (including ginkgolides A, B, C and bilobalide). It is widely utilized in clinical practice, particularly in China and Europe, for the treatment of cerebrovascular and peripheral vascular diseases, as well as neurosensory disorders like tinnitus and vertigo. The extract exerts its therapeutic effects through multiple mechanisms, including potent antioxidant activity by scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS), inhibition of the platelet-activating factor (PAF) receptor to improve blood rheology and microcirculation, and neuroprotective effects against ischemic injury. The specific brand Yuekangtong is currently being evaluated in Phase 4 observational studies for the treatment of acute primary subjective tinnitus.
