Overview
Ginkgo ketoester (also known as GBE50) is a standardized, fifth-generation extract of *Ginkgo biloba* leaves containing at least 44% total flavonoids (including flavonol glycosides) and at least 6% terpene lactones (including ginkgolides and bilobalide), with toxic ginkgolic acids restricted to below 5 ppm. It acts primarily as an antagonist of the platelet-activating factor (PAF) receptor, which inhibits platelet aggregation, reduces blood viscosity, and improves microcirculation. Additionally, it exhibits potent antioxidant and neuroprotective properties by scavenging free radicals, enhancing superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione (GSH) levels, and suppressing neuroinflammatory pathways. Ginkgo ketoester is developed and marketed in China for the treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, including coronary heart disease, angina pectoris, and vertigo caused by cerebral arteriosclerosis.
