Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ginkgo Leaf Dropping Pill (GBDP) is a Chinese patent medicine containing Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE) as its active ingredient. [5] It is formulated as a dropping pill, a dosage form designed for rapid dissolution and absorption. [5] Developed by Wanbangde Pharmaceutical Group, it is approved in China for treating cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. [5, 6, 12] Clinical studies are investigating its efficacy in managing cognitive impairment after brain injury, as well as in patients with coronary heart disease, stable angina pectoris, and depression. [5, 7, 9] The therapeutic effects are attributed to the complex mixture of bioactive compounds in GBE, including flavonoids and terpenoids. [3] These compounds are believed to work through multiple mechanisms, such as improving blood circulation by increasing nitric oxide release, exerting antioxidant effects by scavenging free radicals, inhibiting platelet aggregation, and modulating neurotransmitter systems. [2, 4, 5]
