Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ginkgo leaf extract is a standardized herbal preparation derived from the leaves of the Ginkgo biloba tree, typically containing specific concentrations of flavone glycosides and terpene lactones. In a clinical research program led by the Chinese University of Hong Kong (notably trial NCT00164749), a 120 mg daily dose of ginkgo extract was utilized as a foundational therapy in patients with mild to severe Alzheimer's disease to evaluate the additive effects of curcumin. The extract is thought to exert neuroprotective effects through multiple mechanisms, including the antagonism of platelet-activating factor (PAF) receptors, reduction of oxidative stress, and potential inhibition of amyloid-beta aggregation and related neurotoxicity.
