Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ginkgo-Maren is an approved herbal medicinal product developed and marketed by the German pharmaceutical company Krewel Meuselbach. The active ingredient is a standardized dry extract derived from the leaves of *Ginkgo biloba*. It is primarily indicated for the symptomatic treatment of organic brain-related cognitive impairment and dementia-related syndromes, including symptoms such as memory loss, concentration difficulties, dizziness, tinnitus, and headaches. The extract's therapeutic effects are attributed to its complex mixture of active components, notably ginkgolides, bilobalide, and flavonoids. These constituents work synergistically to improve blood rheology, enhance cerebral and peripheral blood flow, and provide neuroprotective effects by scavenging free radicals and antagonizing platelet-activating factor (PAF) receptors. In Germany, it is available as a pharmacy-only, non-prescription medication in various strengths and formulations, including film-coated tablets and oral solutions.
