Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ginkgo total lactones is a multi-constituent botanical active ingredient derived from *Ginkgo biloba* leaves and enriched for terpene lactones, including ginkgolides and potentially bilobalide depending on the specific preparation. It has been developed in China as an oral pharmaceutical preparation for ischemic stroke, including recovery-phase cerebral infarction. Its principal pharmacological rationale is antagonism of platelet-activating factor receptor signaling by ginkgolides, which may reduce platelet activation and contribute to neurovascular protective effects. A ginkgo total lactones dropping-pill program sponsored by Hefei Innovation Pharmaceutical Technology and manufactured with Wuhu Zhanghengchun Pharmaceutical completed a multicenter Phase 3 trial in ischemic stroke.
