Overview

Ginkgolide dimers are a class of compounds derived from ginkgolides, the active terpene lactones found in *Ginkgo biloba* extracts. These dimeric structures are specifically developed for the treatment of cerebral infarction (ischemic stroke). The drug functions primarily as a potent antagonist of the Platelet-Activating Factor (PAF) receptor, thereby inhibiting PAF-induced platelet aggregation, reducing inflammatory responses, and exerting neuroprotective effects. In clinical development, particularly in China, lyophilized formulations such as those developed by Heilongjiang Jiangshi Pharmaceutical have been evaluated in Phase 3 trials to establish equivalence or superiority to existing ginkgolide-based therapies like Guizhou Yibai's Xinding.
