Overview

Ginkgolide K is a natural terpene trilactone isolated from the leaves of Ginkgo biloba. It acts as a potent antagonist of the platelet-activating factor (PAF) receptor and exhibits significant neuroprotective and cardioprotective properties. Preclinical studies suggest that ginkgolide K protects against acute ischemic stroke and cardiac ischemic injury by inducing protective autophagy via the AMPK/mTOR/ULK1 signaling pathway and mitigating endoplasmic reticulum stress through the IRE1α/XBP1 pathway. It is primarily utilized as a research-use-only compound and is not currently approved for clinical use as a standalone therapeutic.
