Overview

Ginkgolide M is a naturally occurring diterpenoid lactone found in the leaves of the Ginkgo biloba tree. It belongs to the class of compounds known as ginkgolides, which are characterized by their unique cage-like structure and biological activity. Ginkgolides, including ginkgolide M, have been studied primarily for their ability to antagonize the platelet-activating factor receptor (PAFR), thereby inhibiting platelet aggregation and modulating inflammatory responses. While most research has focused on other members of this class (such as ginkgolide B), all ginkgolides share similar structural features and potential mechanisms of action. Ginkgo extracts containing these compounds have been investigated for neuroprotective effects, particularly in conditions like Alzheimer's disease and cerebrovascular disorders[3][6][8].
