Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ginsam (YY-351) is a proprietary vinegar-processed extract of *Panax ginseng* developed by Yuyu Pharma. The specialized vinegar extraction process enriches the preparation with specific ginsenosides, most notably the prosapogenin Rg3, which is considered the primary bioactive component responsible for its metabolic effects. Ginsam is being developed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity, and metabolic syndrome. Its mechanism of action involves the activation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and the modulation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-gamma) signaling pathways. These actions collectively enhance insulin sensitivity, promote glucose uptake in muscle cells, and inhibit adipogenesis. Clinical studies have demonstrated that Ginsam can significantly reduce HbA1c and fasting blood glucose levels in patients with inadequate glycemic control, while maintaining a favorable safety profile.
