Ginsan is a specific acidic polysaccharide isolated from the root of *Panax ginseng*. It functions as an immunomodulator and antineoplastic agent by stimulating the production of various cytokines, including interleukin-2 (IL-2), interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), interleukin-1 alpha (IL-1α), and granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF). This cytokine induction facilitates the generation of lymphokine-activated killer (LAK) cells from both natural killer (NK) and T cell populations. Ginsan has demonstrated efficacy in preclinical models for inhibiting the incidence of lung tumors and reducing melanoma metastasis, often showing synergistic effects when combined with recombinant IL-2. Additionally, it has been investigated for its potential radioprotective properties.
