Overview
Ginseng total saponins (GTS) are the primary bioactive components extracted from the root of *Panax ginseng*. They comprise a complex mixture of ginsenosides, which are triterpene saponins known for their diverse pharmacological effects, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and cardioprotective properties. In clinical research, GTS is being evaluated for its ability to modulate metabolic pathways and improve cardiac function in patients with heart failure. Specifically, studies conducted by Zhejiang Province People's Hospital have investigated the impact of GTS on the serum metabolite spectrum and cardiac performance in patients with NYHA class II–IV heart failure, comparing its efficacy to standard metabolic treatments like trimetazidine and levocarnitine. GTS is also a major component of the traditional Chinese medicine Shenmai injection.
