Overview
Ginseng total secondary saponins (GTSS) is a botanical pharmaceutical candidate developed by the China Pharmaceutical Research and Development Center Co., Ltd. (a subsidiary of Sinopharm) for the treatment of chronic stable angina pectoris. GTSS is produced through the transformation of primary ginsenosides (such as Rb1, Rc, Rd, Re, and Rg1) from *Panax ginseng* into secondary saponins (including ginsenosides Rg3, Rh1, Rh2, and Compound K) via hydrolysis. These secondary metabolites are characterized by significantly improved membrane permeability and higher biological activity compared to their precursors. The therapeutic mechanism of GTSS involves the reduction of myocardial ischemia by promoting coronary vasodilation, inhibiting platelet aggregation, and providing antioxidant protection to cardiomyocytes. It has been evaluated in clinical trials in China to assess its efficacy in reducing the frequency and severity of angina attacks and improving overall cardiac microcirculation.
