Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ginsenoside Rc is a major protopanaxadiol-type tetracyclic triterpenoid saponin isolated from *Panax ginseng*. It exhibits a wide range of pharmacological properties, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-diabetic, anti-adipogenic, and neuroprotective activities. Preclinical studies suggest that ginsenoside Rc acts as a sirtuin-1 (SIRT1) activator, promoting mitochondrial biogenesis and ATP production, which helps alleviate oxidative stress-induced muscle atrophy and provides cardioprotection and neuroprotection. Additionally, it has been shown to enhance GABA_A receptor-mediated ion channel currents and suppress inflammatory pathways by inhibiting the expression of TNF-alpha and IL-1beta. While widely studied in vitro and in vivo, ginsenoside Rc is primarily utilized as a research reagent or dietary supplement component, with no specific clinical development as an isolated pharmaceutical drug.
