ginsenoside Rd

Ginsenoside Rd is a small molecule neuroprotective agent derived from the medicinal herbs *Panax ginseng* and *Panax notoginseng*. Developed by Xijing Hospital (The Fourth Military Medical University), it is specifically investigated for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke. The drug acts as a receptor-operated calcium channel antagonist and exerts its therapeutic effects through multiple neuroprotective mechanisms, including the inhibition of NF-κB activation, reduction of oxidative stress, promotion of glutamate clearance, and suppression of microglial proteasome-mediated inflammation. Clinical evaluation has progressed through Phase 3 multicenter trials, which demonstrated that a 14-day intravenous infusion of ginsenoside Rd significantly improves functional outcomes and reduces disability in patients when administered within 72 hours of stroke onset.
