Overview
ginsenoside Rg3 + capecitabine + oxaliplatin is a combination therapy being investigated for the first-line treatment of advanced gastric cancer. It combines the standard-of-care XELOX chemotherapy regimen (comprising the DNA-alkylating agent oxaliplatin and the fluoropyrimidine carbamate capecitabine) with ginsenoside Rg3, a triterpenoid saponin isolated from Panax ginseng. Ginsenoside Rg3 acts as an anti-angiogenic and pro-apoptotic agent, potentially enhancing the cytotoxic effects of chemotherapy while modulating the immune response. This specific combination has been studied in Phase 2 trials led by Hebei Tumor Hospital to improve clinical outcomes in patients with advanced gastrointestinal malignancies. Ginsenoside Rg3 is already approved in China as a Class I new drug (Shenyi capsule) for various cancers.
