Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Giomer varnish is a bioactive, light-cured dental coating designed for the prevention and management of dentinal hypersensitivity and to promote remineralization of tooth structure. It incorporates Shofu Dental's proprietary Surface Pre-Reacted Glass (S-PRG) filler technology, which consists of multifunctional fluoro-boro-alumino-silicate glass particles surrounded by a glass-ionomer phase within a resin matrix. Upon application and curing, the varnish forms a protective barrier on exposed dentin or enamel that can last several months. The S-PRG fillers actively release and recharge six beneficial ions—fluoride, strontium, borate, aluminum, silicate, and sodium—which contribute to caries resistance by inhibiting plaque formation, neutralizing acids in the oral environment, promoting remineralization (including conversion to fluoroapatite/strontium apatite), and providing antibacterial effects. Giomer varnishes are primarily indicated for relief from hypersensitivity due to gingival recession or enamel loss but also serve as preventive agents against caries in high-risk patients due to their sustained ion release properties[2][3][5][6][10].
