gitoformate

Gitoformate is a cardiac glycoside of the cardenolide type used in the treatment of congestive heart failure and cardiac arrhythmia. It is a derivative of gitoxin (from Digitalis lanata), with five formylated hydroxyl groups. Its mechanism of action is similar to other cardiac glycosides—primarily inhibition of the sodium/potassium-ATPase pump in cardiomyocytes, leading to increased intracellular calcium and enhanced myocardial contractility. Gitoformate was marketed under the trade name Dynocard and produced by Madaus but is not currently available in the US or Europe[1][2][3][4][7].
