GKA-71

GKA-71 is an orally active small molecule glucokinase activator. It enhances the activity of glucokinase, a key enzyme involved in glucose homeostasis by promoting insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and increasing hepatic glucose uptake. In preclinical studies, administration of GKA-71 to mice with diet-induced insulin resistance improved glucose tolerance and reduced basal plasma glucose levels. Chronic treatment also led to improved insulin sensitivity and augmented insulin secretion from islets at moderate glucose concentrations. The compound has demonstrated islet-protective effects but is currently used for research purposes only[1][2][5].
